What are Nidecker Supermatic Bindings and Why Do I Need Them?

Snowboarding just got a whole lot easier—and way more fun. The Nidecker Supermatic bindings are an absolute game-changer, letting you Kick, Click, and Go without the hassle of strapping in every time.
Whether you're shredding deep powder, lapping the park, or cruising with the crew, these bindings bring next-level convenience without sacrificing performance. Let’s dive into what makes the Supermatic so rad - and a firm favourite here with our in-house shredders.
What Makes the Nidecker Supermatic So Special?
Supermatic bindings are the world’s first fully automatic, step-in bindings that work with any boot. Just slide your foot in, step down on the heel pedal, and boom—you’re locked in and ready to rip. Want out? A quick flick of the release lever and you’re free. No special boots required. No annoying fiddling. Just more time shredding.
Who Are The Nidecker Supermatic Bindings For?

Honestly? Everyone. But here’s who will appreciate them the most:
Riders who hate strapping in – No more sitting down and strapping up while your skier buddies (or those already with step in bindings) disappear down the slope. Keep your flow going and stay in the action.
Parents teaching their kids – Step out, help the little groms get back up, and step right back in like a boss. If they're stuck on a flat, just jump out, pull them along and jump back in when they're speeding off at the other side!
Riders with bad backs or knee issues – If bending down to strap in is a struggle, Supermatic makes life way easier.
Powder hounds & backcountry explorers – No more sinking into the snow while strapping in. Just step in and send it.
Indoor dome & dry slope riders – Less time messing with straps, more time carving and progressing.
Flat haters - Ever struggled to get across the flats? We hear you... and so do the Supermatics. Simply pop out, stroll, pop back in, shred!
Do I Need Specific Boots or Can I Use My Own?

No need for special boots! One of the biggest advantages of the Supermatic bindings is that they work with any snowboard boot from any brand. No expensive boot upgrades, no compatibility headaches—just step in and ride.
Did you know that Nidecker Snowboard Boots are also designed with Supermatics in mind with a special heavy-duty spine that work even better on the Supermatic roller too? We think that's pretty rad, but if you already love your boots, then there's no need to change (unless you have specific Burton Step On boots).
How Do The Supermatic Bindings Work?

Step In, Ride Out
Supermatic uses a Nylon+ Ultraback Reclining Hiback to create a huge opening for easy entry. Just step in and push down on the Heel Pedal—the hiback pops up and locks you in. That’s it. You’re ready to ride.
Easy Exit
Hit the Release Lever and step out just as smoothly. This makes getting in and out on flat spots, lift lines, or sketchy terrain a total breeze.
Traditional Feel, Modern Convenience
Unlike some step-in systems that feel different underfoot, Supermatic still gives you the secure, locked-in feel of a classic two-strap binding. Need to adjust? The Quick-Set Latches let you fine-tune the fit and forget about it. Prefer old-school ratchets? No worries—you can still use them like traditional bindings when needed.
Are They Heavier and Does the Extra Weight Impact My Riding?

Supermatic bindings are slightly heavier than traditional bindings due to the step-in mechanism, but you won’t notice it when riding. The added weight is balanced out with a responsive flex and solid energy transfer, so you still get a smooth, powerful ride without compromise.
You'll notice a whole load of pro riders using Supermatics from park to backcountry, without being impacted with the weight - if they're good enough for them, they're good enough for the rest of us too!
What Terrain Is the Supermatic Best For?

The short answer? Everything. The Supermatic is an all-mountain beast that thrives anywhere:
Groomers – Carve like a champ with the responsive flex.
Powder – Step in effortlessly without getting buried.
Parks – The Hybrid Exo-Frame Straps keep things snug and secure for stomping landings.
Backcountry & side hits – Stay locked in, stay comfortable, and send it off every hit.
Can You Use Them as Normal Traditional Bindings Too?

Absolutely! While the Supermatic is designed for automatic entry, you still have the option to use the ratchets like a traditional two-strap binding. This is perfect for when conditions get tricky—like deep powder or steep slopes—where you might want to manually tighten things up. It’s the best of both worlds: step-in convenience when you want it, classic binding security when you need it.
What Supermatic Options Are There?

For the 24/25 season, the Nidecker Supermatic comes in two options: the standard Supermatic and the Supermatic Carbon.
Both offer the same game-changing automatic entry system, but the Carbon version is slightly lighter and noticeably stiffer for enhanced performance. It also features a different forward lean adjuster with a screw for fine-tuned adjustments, along with the LSR2 ratchet, which eliminates the need to lock the straps down in the same way as the standard Supermatic.
Looking ahead to 25/26, there will be three Nidecker Supermatic models: the OG, which is essentially the current Supermatic but upgraded with the new LSR2 ratchet; the Carbon, which will maintain the same performance-driven features as 24/25; and the LT, which introduces a new highback, a slightly stiffer feel, the LSR2 ratchet, and a redesigned, lower-profile strap for increased responsiveness.
Additionally, Salomon’s versions of the Supermatic (also due to launch 25/26) will be based on the LT model, with the only difference being the highback design.
Can You Rotate the Highback on Supermatic Bindings?

No, you can’t rotate the highback on the Nidecker Supermatic bindings. However, most riders won’t need to, as the automatic entry system is designed for optimal performance straight out of the box.
If rotating your highback is essential to your riding style, you might prefer a traditional two-strap binding that allows for that level of customisation.
That said, the highback angle is still adjustable using the forward lean adjuster, so you can fine-tune your stance for better response and comfort.
How do Supermatic bindings differ from Flow bindings?

The Nidecker Supermatic bindings are fully automatic step-in bindings, meaning you simply push your foot in and step down to lock in—no need to use your hands at all. In contrast, Flow bindings are semi-automatic, using a reclining hiback for easier entry, but still requiring you to slide your foot in and sometimes adjust the straps manually for the right fit.
The Supermatic also features a heel pedal that automatically closes the straps as you step in, while Flow bindings rely on a single large strap that stays connected across the boot.
,
This makes Supermatic the fastest and most convenient option for riders who want a true hands-free experience.
How do Supermatic bindings differ from Burton Step On bindings?

The Nidecker Supermatic and Burton Step On bindings both offer quick and easy entry, but they work in very different ways.
The Supermatic is an automatic binding that works with any snowboard boot—just step in, and the heel pedal locks you in place. It feels like a traditional two-strap binding when riding and even allows you to use the ratchets manually if needed.
Step On bindings, on the other hand, require specific Step On-compatible boots with built-in connection points that clip into the binding. This system is ultra-fast but lacks the adjustability of traditional bindings. The Step On bindings themselves are also noticeably lighter in weight than Supermatic bindings due to the lower profile design, however once you consider the weight of the boots, then you can decide if that's a deciding factor for you.
The biggest difference? Supermatic offers universal boot compatibility and retains the feel of a standard two-strap binding, while Step On is a boot-specific system designed for even faster in-and-out convenience.
What Size Nidecker Supermatic Bindings Do I Need?

Nidecker Supermatic bindings come in multiple sizes to accommodate different boot sizes. To find the right fit, check the manufacturer’s size chart (which we've popped into each of the listings so you can easily take a look) and match it to your snowboard boot size.
If you’re on the cusp between two sizes or have a boot with a larger volume, it’s generally best to size up for a more comfortable and secure fit.
A snug fit ensures the best performance and response, while a binding that’s too small may not allow your boot to sit properly, affecting comfort and control.
Why Choose Supermatic Over Other Bindings?
Universal Boot Compatibility – Works with any snowboard boot, so you don’t need to buy a whole new setup.
Faster Than Strapping In – No sitting. No bending. No delays.
All-Mountain Ready – Built tough with a 7/10 flex that handles everything.
Accessibility - For those who find it more difficult to bend down.
Game-Changing Convenience – Whether you're hitting the mountain hard or just cruising, you’ll spend less time strapping in and more time riding.
Backcountry & Deep Powder Approved – No more struggling to strap in when the snow is waist-deep.
Built for Progression – Perfect for riders who want to focus on shredding, not setup.

How do I set up my Supermatic bindings?
Setting up your Supermatic bindings is super easy - plus the great news is that once you've set them up to your exact setup, then you don't need to do it again! Here’s how to get dialled in and ready to shred:
1. Mount the bindings to your board – Use the standard 4-hole or EST/Channel system to attach the bindings in your preferred stance.
2. Adjust your highback – Make sure the reclining hiback moves smoothly and is set at an angle that feels comfortable.
3. Set your Quick-Set Latches – Adjust the straps to your desired tightness, so they’re perfectly snug every time you step in. Don't forget to leave a little gap on the middle strap (around a finger width) so that you can get your foot in and out.
4. Check the Heel Pedal engagement – Step in and make sure the mechanism locks securely.
5. Fine-tune as needed – You can always tweak the straps or use the ratchets manually if needed.
Once set up, you’ll be stepping in and sending it without a second thought!
The Final Word: Are Supermatic Bindings Worth It?
100% yes.
The Nidecker Supermatic bindings are changing the game for snowboarders everywhere. Whether you want less hassle, more speed, or just a smoother ride, these bindings deliver. Step in, click in, and send it—because you should be riding, not strapping in.

Fantastic bindings. Step in is easy. A bit of snowboard wax applied to the rear roller makes them much easier to step in. Well worth taking some time to set these up properly.
Neil 27/01/2025
Dry easy for older riders. They do jam with ice a little but not really a problem
Feefo User 17/01/2025
Absolute game changer for me. I’ve been riding about 2 weeks a year for 15+ years. At 61 I’m still happy bending over to clip in or even sit down terrain dependant. But these just make it so easy. By the end of the first day I was fully used to them and entry took literal seconds. Off the board they feel slightly heavier than conventional bindings but as soon as you strap them to the board and you start riding, as far as I was concerned there was no difference. I did notice a bit of scuffing on my boots at the end of the week. But the boots are 8+ years old now

I bought this for my wife and so far have had no complaints from her which means they must be really something special

Total game changer- these are so easy to use and stop all the faffing about sitting in the snow, simple to use, comfortable, need to spend some time to get straps in correct position but once set they just work a treat
