Wax is designed to break down the surface tension between the base of your board or skis and the snow. Breaking the surface tension releases speed. If you ski or board in North America, cold-temperature wax is the best one to go for because snow conditions are much colder over there. In Europe, you should also use cold wax if you are skiing at high altitude, or in Jan or Feb - especially in the mornings.
