Being an Independently rider-owned and operated snowboard outerwear company, having an obsession with making snowboard products that are progressively unique is what 686 is all about. Enjoy.
On November 13, 1992, the 686 technical apparel company was formed. The 686 name comes from a crucial date in the life of Mike Akira West's grandmother (June 6th, 1986) and adds up to the age of when he started the company (6+8+6). Since the beginning, 686 has been about providing innovative, fashionable outerwear and technical apparel inspired from the same Los Angeles street culture and mountain lifestyle it was founded upon.
686 is an independent rider-owned and operated brand committed to providing unique and progressive products. Michael Akira West has been at the helm from the beginning, sharing his innovative ideas in technical apparel and creating some of the most recognisable features in the world of snow outerwear. These include things like the amazing Smarty® removable liners, the Times® limited-edition collaboration products, the Plexus® shell technology, the patented and bomb-proof Toolbelt® functional belts, and the exclusive Infidry® waterproof technical fabrics. The combined force of these innovations has created some incredible technical apparel and outerwear, resulting in snowboard jackets, pants and clothing which look amazing and stand the test of time, season after season.
